Navigating Times of Adversity

"A miracle is a shift in perception from fear to love" -Marianne Williamson

This quote is from the book A Return to Love by Marianne Williamson. This is a beautiful quote for such a transitional time on our planet. A shift in perception is exactly what we need, as we navigate our thoughts during this unprecedented time. We are in the midst of an historical event, it is important to allow ourselves space and patience. What we need most of all is self love amidst the fear and gloom we are presented with daily.

What does this look like?

I am going to outline some ideas for you, take what feels right for you.

Try not to Resist. When such a fearful time arises, we have an innate response to want to resist, tense up and perhaps "power through". It is important, (if we want to come out of this with as little post traumatic stress as possible) to allow ourselves to soften to what is going on. To allow ourselves to feel, and acknowledge these feelings and emotions. Meet them with acceptance and love.

We are all human, we need to create space for our humanness.

We often feel the need to control the situation and stay on top of it, which is a great stress response for normal everyday stressors, however at a time like this, that method may not work for all.

We store stress and trauma in our tissues, primarily our connective tissue a.k.a. fascia. You may feel your body is much tighter right now than usual. Yoga, meditation and mindfulness activities are extremely helpful during this time. Bring awareness to these areas of tension in your body, even if this is the only step you take it will be helpful. Try to reconnect with your body when you can, bring yourself to the present moment whenever possible. When tension is noticed in your mind or body, remind yourself it is safe to let go of the tension.

In this very moment you are safe. As humans, we are hardwired, to constantly look for perceived danger within our surroundings. Right now this hardwired response in us is on high alert. Our fears are constantly being confirmed with news stories, stories from friends, co workers, family members etc. This brings us into a heightened awareness of our future and pulls us out of the present moment.

What we need to remember is that, in the present moment we are safe. If we are following all the safety measures that apply to us, we are doing our best to prevent contracting the virus and the rest is in the hands of fate. We must lean in to our faith and trust that our bodies have the innate ability to heal themselves. We can strengthen these tools by taking better care of ourselves mind and body. Strengthen our self love muscle, and build up our resistance to adversity.

It is important to move out of the energy of resistance and into the energy of acceptance. Accept your feelings and emotions, accept that you are doing your best with what you are dealing with, accept yourself for where you are at, accept others for their actions, accept this pandemic for what it has brought to the entire planet. Meet it all with love and acceptance. Sometimes accepting the actions of others can be difficult, but it is important to understand that they truly are doing the best they can with the tools they have in such an unprecedented time. We are all at different levels on our spiritual path, some are here to heal and others are not open to it. Focus on your self and lead by example, by the light to help others find the way.

Remember there is peace in the present moment, this peace will dissolve stress and stress, we know weakens the immune system.

Journalling is an excellent way to move through energy and emotions which are likely to get stuck. Start a journal, write in it whenever you can, even if it is just a couple of lines to get your thoughts on paper and out of your head.

Moving your body is also an excellent way to move through energy and emotions. Find what body movement is calling to you at this time.

Connect with your breath. Sit in stillness, become aware of your body and connect with your breath. Feel your breath as it moves through your body and find the peace that exists within you. Connect with this peace whenever you can, every time you do, it is strengthening your immune system.

Visualizations are extremely helpful, you can visualize every cell in your body working to build you up and keep you strong and healthy.

Practice the choose again method every time you feel fear rising within you. Know that you have the power to choose again. Allowing yourself to use the choose again method, will give you a strong sense of empowerment. Choose a different feeling or emotion, you can swap feelings of fear with feelings of LOVE and change your vibration instantly.

Don't take yourself too seriously, have that dance party in your living room, read that juicy fiction novel, watch a Netflix series you've been wanting to watch. Try not to succumb to the old efficiency model which was clearly not working for us.

This is a reset, a time to find clarity, to see what is important, what is working for us and what is not.

Connect with nature if you are able to. Step outside, breathe the fresh air, listen to the birds, find gratitude for the beauty that exists within our natural surroundings.

Start a daily practice of gratitude. Gratitude is such a high vibrational frequency and when we invite it into our bodies, we invite in good heath both emotionally and physically.

Help someone, call someone on the phone, offer your assistance in some way, send positive messages to people, send loving energy to others and to the planet. When we are in service to others our vibration rises.

I believe this is a call to action, a time to be with ourselves like never before. To build self love, self compassion to build our spiritual practice, so that we can show up for ourselves, for others and the entire universe.

We have your back, with our virtual online yoga studio on our website we are offering you many tools to help you build your spiritual practice and love yourself through this.

We are all in this together.

Sending you loads of love everyday,

Leigh Ann
